Governor's Biographies

Barbara Arrandale MBE - Chair of Governors

Born in London 1950. Trained as a PE teacher. Married in 1973, to a PE teacher! Two children. A son, a Major in the Army, and daughter, a senior teacher in a rural school in Leicestershire. After several years in the West Midlands, during which time my husband and I moved into Primary Education and completed BA degrees we moved to Hong Kong. Here I worked in the private education sector but we both continued our love of PE by running a very popular swimming club. After 9 years in Hong Kong we moved to Belize, Central America, to an MOD base with a very small school. We catered for the on-camp youngsters from Reception to Year 6 as well as enjoying the company of many expats from around the world, their youngsters attended as ‘fee payers’. During these 9 years we completed our Masters Degrees. Taking early retirement in 2003 we selected Chesterfield, and specifically Hasland, to settle back to U.K. after 18 years in the tropics. The last 19 years have been busy with our involvement in so many local community opportunities...one being a school Governor.

Helen Davies - Vice Chair of Governors

I am very proud to have been a school governor for 9 years. Over that period of time I have seen so many hard working staff, always doing their best for the children in the school.

My working background was in education and my training as a teacher was in Special Needs, teaching children of all ages in special schools and mainstream. I also taught in a school nursery for 7 years.

I have 2 grown up children and 4  grandchildren. I am so fortunate that since retiring 14 years ago, I have been able to carry out some of the care for the grandchildren.

I am grateful to the school for giving me the opportunity to work with the other governors to help the school achieve their aims and ambitions. I think I will always have an interest in education, whatever I am doing.

Caroline Huxford - Chair of the CLCL Committee

I have lived in and around Hasland for the past 20 years and have been lucky enough to see all 3 of my children attending Hasland Infant School.

I started as a parent governor and feel privileged to be part of this Governing Board supporting school to maintain the high standards of education provided, as well as ensuring that our pupils are happy, safe and secure.

Barbara Newman - Vice Chair of Resources Committee

I have lived in Chesterfield for most of my life, apart from 5 years in Derby where I went to college and worked at the County Court for 2 years. I returned to Chesterfield and worked in other courts in the area before working in the legal department at Kennings. I am now retired. My last job was as Head of Legal Services for one of the countries largest motor retailers.

I have lived in Hasland since 2000 and was invited to be a governor of the school in January 2019. I have no background in education but have enjoyed the challenge of getting to grips with what is required of the Board of Governors and the responsibilities that come with this.

Katie Wood - Parent Governor

I am really excited to be on the governing board at Hasland Infant School. My daughter came to this school 8 years ago and now my son is here. Both my children love this school and have thrived in their education from being pupils here.

I became a resident of Hasland a year ago and I am passionate about my community and the schools place within that.

I work part time as an admin assistant and part time running my own peg doll business.

I feel honoured to be a part of the Governing Board and supporting the school in any way I can.
