Karen Rowley – Chair of Governors
I have been in education all my working life, having qualified as a teacher in 1980 with a BEd. degree, specialising in nursery and infant education. After starting my teaching career in Nottinghamshire and then having 3 children of my own, I returned to teaching at a Chesterfield Nursery and Infant school. I taught there for 13 years and then joined the LA advisory service where I worked as a Primary Curriculum Consultant for 15 years until my retirement in 2017. This role involved providing in-service training for teachers and supporting schools across the whole of Derbyshire, including Hasland Infant and Nursery. I became reacquainted with Hasland Infant and Nursery school when my grandson started in the nursery in January 2020, and was invited to join the governing body in 2021. Since then I have had the great pleasure of working with several members of staff, and other governors, to support the school in their aim to provide pupils with the best possible opportunities to achieve their full potential during this stage of their education.
Matt Ingram Smith - Vice Chair of Governors
Having lived in Hasland since moving to Chesterfield from London in 2015, I've loved the community-within-a-community feeling that I've experienced here.
I tell everyone that being a Hasland resident means you have the best of everything within walking distance - whether it's parks, pet shops, or public transport. That community feel would be nothing without strong schools that offer the best start to a child's education, which is why I'm proud to be a governor at Hasland Infant School.
My background is in software sales and recruitment, whilst also being actively involved both our local church and a Chesterfield-based education charity. As a father to a toddler I'm fully invested in seeing Hasland continue to offer a safe and fun environment for children to flourish.
Caroline Huxford - Chair of the CLCL Committee
I have lived in and around Hasland for the past 20 years and have been lucky enough to see all 3 of my children attending Hasland Infant School.
I started as a parent governor and feel privileged to be part of this Governing Board supporting school to maintain the high standards of education provided, as well as ensuring that our pupils are happy, safe and secure.
Penny Amott – LA Governor
I have been involved in education all my working career. I started as a Primary School teacher in 1983 and worked for more than 20 years as a teacher across the Primary age range and also into special education. I have experience teaching overseas also. I moved into Teacher Education in 2004 and worked on PGCE programmes and Teach First as a Primary English specialist before retiring in 2022. For the last five years I was the Programme Leader of the Primary PGCE at UCL – Institute of Education.
On taking early retirement, I moved from East London to Chesterfield. This was primarily so that I could be close to my daughter (middle child of three), who was planning on starting a family with her partner in Sheffield. I have loved living in the area and enjoy dog walks in the Peaks and along Chesterfield Canal. I now look after my grandson one day per week. I also work part-time for Sheffield Hallam University supporting student teachers while on placement in local schools.
I am very happy to be working with Hasland Infants and Nursery school as an LA Governor. I am part of New Life Church, who meet in Hasland Village Hall, so I am getting to know the area. I have also worked with the school while supervising a student teacher.
