At Hasland Infant School we place a strong emphasis on promoting positive mental health and wellbeing for all children through a caring, supportive and nurturing school environment. We help children to understand and manage their emotions, build positive relationships and develop resilience, enabling them to thrive both socially and academically. For some children, additional support may be beneficial, and our nurture provision offers targeted opportunities to develop these important skills in a small and supportive environment.
Our Nurture Group provides additional support for children who may be experiencing social, emotional or behavioural difficulties that affect their confidence, relationships or engagement in school life. We always strive to identify and understand the underlying causes of these difficulties so that appropriate support can be put in place.
Led by Mrs Thompson, nurture sessions take place in our dedicated nurture room, The Nest, which provides a safe, supportive and caring environment. Within this nurturing space, children can build positive relationships with trusted adults and their peers, develop their emotional wellbeing and gain the skills and confidence needed to thrive in school. Through a range of structured activities, games, discussion and play-based experiences, children are supported to develop important social and emotional skills, including:
Children attend nurture sessions in a small group setting, allowing support to be tailored to individual needs. The skills and strategies developed within the nurture group help children to feel safe, valued and understood, enabling them to engage more successfully in school life and achieve their full potential.
We work closely with parents, carers and school staff to ensure that the support provided is consistent and has a positive impact on children's wellbeing, behaviour and learning.
