SEND

At Hasland Infant School, we are an inclusive school that promotes the wellbeing, happiness and progress of every child. All children are entitled to a high-quality education through a vibrant and ambitious curriculum that meets their social, emotional and learning needs.

We take pride in our provision for pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and are committed to ensuring that every child can reach their full potential. Our SEND provision is built on a whole-school, 'team around the child' approach, with all staff working together to provide high-quality, inclusive support.

We offer a wide range of support and adapt teaching and learning opportunities to meet individual needs. We work in close partnership with families and, where appropriate, external professionals and specialists to ensure that children receive the right support at the right time.

All members of staff are committed to identifying and responding to individual needs within an inclusive environment, ensuring that every child feels valued and is able to achieve their full potential academically, socially and emotionally.

At Hasland Infant School, every child is known, valued and encouraged to do their very best. We are committed to working in partnership with families and supporting every child to flourish and achieve their full potential.

Welcome from our SENDCo, Mrs Rebecca Dilks

I am proud to be the Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator (SENDCo) at Hasland Infant School. My role is to oversee and coordinate the additional support that children may need during their time at our school.  I work closely with all members of staff, providing guidance, training and support to ensure that every child receives the provision they need to achieve success. I am always available to discuss any questions or concerns you may have, so please do not hesitate to contact me.

I look forward to working with you and your child throughout their journey at Hasland Infant School.

The Derbyshire Local Offer

The Derbyshire Local Offer is in place to support children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), as well as their parents and carers. It provides clear information about available services and provision, including how to apply for an assessment, early years support, education and learning, care services, preparing for adulthood, health and wellbeing, financial support and travel and transport. The Derbyshire Local Offer contains useful resources for families. The Local Offer includes a directory of local SEND services, support groups, and activities, empowering families to make informed decisions and enhance the quality of life for children and young people with SEND in Derbyshire.

Inclusive Learning environments

Our learning environments are welcoming, inclusive, and accessible, supporting every child to thrive. They are carefully organised to promote children's engagement, attention, independence, and access to learning, ensuring that individual needs are recognised and accommodated. We provide structured, purposeful spaces that help children feel safe, confident, and ready to learn.

We are very proud of our Sensory 'Magic Room', which provides a calm, safe, and nurturing environment where children can regulate their emotions and engage with a variety of sensory experiences. The room has been thoughtfully designed to meet individual needs and features carefully selected resources, including soft lighting, tactile equipment, and interactive sensory activities. These resources help children develop self-awareness, improve focus, and support their emotional wellbeing.

Children may access the 'Magic Room' for a wide range of reasons. They may need a quiet space to self-regulate, scheduled sensory breaks during the day, support with sensory processing, or opportunities to explore and learn through sensory play. We also use the room to deliver a range of interventions, including Positive Play, Intensive Interaction, and opportunities for communication in a calm and supportive environment. The 'Magic Room' provides a nurturing setting that promotes confidence, independence, emotional wellbeing, and positive engagement.
