Early Years

Welcome to Early Years

A very warm welcome to Early Years, where Nursery and Reception children begin their exciting learning journey with us.

At the heart of everything we do is our school vision:

‘At Hasland Infant School we are ambitious for every child. We are committed to providing a nurturing, happy, safe and inclusive environment where children feel valued, respected and inspired to learn’

Our Early Years is a nurturing, inclusive and stimulating environment where every child is valued as a unique individual. We recognise that children arrive with different experiences, interests and starting points. Our dedicated staff work closely with families to ensure that every child receives the care, support and challenge they need to flourish.

We believe that young children learn best through play, exploration, meaningful experiences and positive relationships. Our carefully planned indoor and outdoor environments encourage children to be curious, independent, confident and enthusiastic learners. We know that by prioritising the early foundations of Language and Communication, Social and Emotional development and Physical Development we support children to achieve their full potential in other areas of learning so that they are well prepared for the next stage of their learning journey at Hasland Infant school and beyond.

Our Early Years is a fun, interesting and exciting place to be. We look forward to welcoming you and your child into our Early Years community and sharing all the wonderful milestones, discoveries and achievements that lie ahead.

“All children deserve the care and support they need to have the best start in life.

Children learn and develop at a faster rate from birth to five years old than at any

other time in their lives, so their experiences in early years have a major impact on

their future life chances. A secure, safe, and happy childhood is important in its

own right. Good parenting and high-quality early learning provide the foundation

children need to fulfil their potential”

Welcome from Nursery

A very warm welcome to Hasland Infant School Nursery. We are delighted that you and your child are considering joining our nursery and look forward to working in partnership with you throughout this exciting stage of your child's learning journey

At Hasland Infant and Nursery School, we believe every child deserves to feel a strong sense of belonging within our school community.  We provide a safe, nurturing and stimulating environment where diversity is celebrated and children feel valued, respected and motivated to learn. Through play-based experiences, exploration and positive relationships, we support each child to develop confidence, independence and a lifelong love of learning.

Children learn best when they are actively engaged, curious and having fun. Our large nursery  offers a wide range of carefully planned indoor and outdoor experiences that develop:

  • Communication and language skills
  • Personal, social and emotional development
  • Physical development
  • Early reading, writing and mathematical skills
  • Creativity, imagination and problem-solving
  • Understanding of the world around them

Our experienced staff take time to get to know each child as an individual. Through observing children's interests, strengths and needs they plan next steps carefully to ensure learning is meaningful, engaging and tailored to meet each child where they are.

We recognise that parents and carers are a child's first and most important educators . We value strong partnerships with families and encourage regular communication so that together we can support every child to succeed.

Starting nursery is a significant milestone for both children and families. We are committed to making the transition as smooth and positive as possible.  As part of your child's transition into our nursery we carry out a home visit which provides a wonderful opportunity to meet you and your child in a familiar environment and begin this important partnership.

We welcome visits to our Nursery and are always happy to answer any questions you may have.

We are looking forward to meeting you and your child at this exciting time.

Welcome from Reception

We would like to offer a warm welcome to Reception.  For some of you this will be the next step of your journey at Hasland Infant School after attending our Nursery, for others, this will be the start of your adventures with us.

Reception is made up of 3 classes; The Helpful Hares, The Happy Hedgehogs and The Brilliant Badgers. Your child’s Reception year will start in the September after they turn 4.

Our Reception learning environments are busy, exciting places with lots of interesting things to do.  Every class has daily access to both indoor and outdoor learning areas giving the children lots of opportunities to play and develop their skills and understanding. Our learning environments are carefully planned and set up with activities to help children learn new skills and practice and embed what they have been taught.

At Hasland Infant and Nursery school we are extremely proud of our bespoke curriculum which is carefully designed to enable every child to achieve, belong and thrive, regardless of their background, ability or starting point. Through rich, engaging and memorable learning experiences, children develop progressively deeper knowledge, understanding and skills within a coherent and ambitious curriculum that builds learning over time.

In Reception we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) set standards for learning, development and care in line with Government requirements.  The areas of learning covered are:

  • communication and language
  • personal, social and emotional development
  • physical development
  • literacy
  • mathematics
  • understanding the world
  • expressive arts and design

These areas are further broken down into 17 strands and Early Learning Goals (ELG’s).

Our curriculum supports the development of the whole child, so they become kind and respectful children who are confident, resilient and curious life-long learners. We provide children with a safe learning environment, where highly skilled practitioners support the children to form strong and secure relationships. Children feel valued and are comfortable to take risks with their learning as a result. Our Reception Children follow the Topics and themes are carefully planned across school to capture the children’s interest and imaginations.

We recognise the huge importance that speaking and listening skills play in children’s future success both academically and socially. Language and communication, alongside high-quality phonics and early reading are the heart of our curriculum.

We value parents as partners and recognise the importance of good home school relationships to your children’s development. We work closely with parents and carers to build and nurture these relationships to ensure the best possible start for your child within our school.
