Phonics:

In phonics we are going to look at the ‘o’ spelling.    It can make two different sounds – oe and o.  E.g.      Bob,    both

Go to www.phonicsplay.co.uk and login (remains free to use) and go to cheeky-chimps alternative pronunciation of the o sound: https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/resources/phase/5/cheeky-chimps

Maths:

Our number of the week is 31.  What do you know about this number? Tell your grown up 5 facts or create a spidergram like we do in school.

      31 = ___ -  ___                                                                   10 + 10 + ___ = 31

How many tens are in 31?

Draw 31 using ten sticks and units of 1                       Is 31 Odd or Even? How do you know?

Playtime:

Create a scene in a flower pot using soil or sand in a sandpit and add in some small world.

Literacy:

Over the last couple of weeks you have created a character and a scene for a story.  This week we are going to write a story using our imagination.  A story needs a beginning, a middle and an end.  We always draw our ideas first on a story map (like we did for the three little pigs).  Talk about your ideas and then draw a story map.  You can always write on some adjectives or a good opener to help you remember what you want to say.

Beginning – What kind of day is it?  What is your character doing?  Where is your character? (Setting). It was a beautiful sunny day. The waves were gently splashing against the sparkling rocks. Molly the mermaid was busy polishing her beautiful jewels in her treasure chest. She was sitting on the yellow sand which was as soft as a cloud.

Middle – What exciting thing will happen to your character?  This is where the adventure takes place. The very next morning Molly went to get her favourite pearl necklace from her treasure chest. Unfortunately, when she got to the cool, secret cave the beautiful treasure chest was gone.  It had been stolen!  Molly was shocked and upset, she asked her lovely friends to help her to look.  Sammy the seahorse noticed some tracks in the soft sand.  The group of friends followed the trail and found the treasure chest in a dark, spooky shipwreck.  Next to the treasure chest was an enormous shark, Molly was very cross and very frightened.  Surprisingly the shark said sorry and promised never to take anything that didn’t belong to him again.

End – This is where everything comes together and the story ends. Sid the shark helped Molly to take the beautiful treasure chest back to the cave.  Luckily Molly forgave Sid and they all became friends.  Sid never took anything again and they all lived happily ever after.

Lunch:

Wash your hands and help your grown up to prepare your lunch.
