At Hasland Infant School we teach our children to become confident, competent, creative and safe users of technology. Our curriculum enables children to find and explore information whilst providing them with the necessary skills to be able to do this in an effective and safe way. We teach our children to become computing experts who understand that the effective use of technology can equip them with the skills needed for their future roles in life. At Hasland Infant School we emphasise the importance of online safety. Providing a broad and balanced online safety education for all ages is vital to ensuring that pupils can navigate the online world safely. We aim to use the teaching of online safety to empower our children to use the internet appropriately. This is detailed in our online safety policy.
The children in Year 1 have been learning to use the keyboards on the netbooks in order for them to communicate with others through the internet. The children were able to identify that we must not talk to strangers on the internet or send a photograph of themselves, showing a good understanding of E-Safety. Following on from their fairy-tale topic the children decided to email Jack to tell him what they had seen at the top of his beanstalk.
The children in reception have been learning how to keep safe on the internet, we learnt not to talk to strangers, not to give away any of our personal information and what to do if we see something that we don’t like. The children made posters to explain to others how to stay safe on the internet.

How we use the internet and how to use it safely
The year 2 children have been extremely busy learning how to use cameras and iPads to document their trip around the world. They have also brainstormed ideas of how people use the internet/technology in this generation. They managed to come up with lots of ideas and then discussed which of these were safe. The children then wrote some sentences to inform others on how to use the internet safely.
