When we arrived back at School after Christmas we had a special visitor for classes 7, 8, 9 and 10. His name was Trevor and he was a TV reporter for Truly Terrific Travel.
He told us that he travels around making TV shows about different places. His next show was about Hasland and Chesterfield so we decided to help him. We found out lots of interesting information about the different landmarks in both areas, such as the Crooked Spire and Eastwood Park. After becoming experts on the different landmarks we picked our favourite and wrote a report about it ready for Trevor’s show. We had to use geographical expert words in our writing. These included 'village', 'town', and 'landmark'.
Once we had written our reports classes 7, 8, 9 and 10 worked with Trevor from Truly Terrific Travel to make a video all about Hasland!
After learning about our local area we decided we wanted to become travel reporters like Trevor! To do this we first needed to become experts on the UK. This meant we needed to learn the names of the countries, the capital cities and the names of the five surrounding seas.
Have a look at some of our brilliant maps of the UK which include a key and a compass!
